About HV Cables Calc
HV Cables Calc is a precision engineering tool for high-voltage cable system design. It calculates cable duct configurations, phase spacing, earth continuity conductor (ECC) positioning and sheath induced voltages in accordance with CIGRE 283, covering both normal operating and single-phase earth-fault conditions for single-point bonded circuits in flat and touching-trefoil formations.
The application also evaluates cable sequence impedances — positive and zero sequence — following CIGRE TB 531, and performs thermo-mechanical force (thrust) analysis, displacement and electro-mechanical short-circuit force calculations based on CIGRE 194 and CIGRE 669, including capstan theory, flexible-loop forces and cleat strength verification. Results are presented as auditable engineering reports with governing equations, references and sensitivity analysis, ready for incorporation into client deliverables and protection or load-flow studies.
The tool is built for high-voltage cable and substation design engineers, protection engineers and consultants who need fast, transparent and standard-compliant calculations for 132 kV and similar transmission cable circuits. It supports both desktop and mobile field use, with print-ready report output.
HV Cables Calc is developed and maintained by the HV Cables Calc engineering team. The calculation methodology follows published CIGRE technical brochures and recognised industry standards; results should be independently verified against project-specific data and design criteria before use.
